Playwrights of 2018

Talented playwrights who showcased their work in the 2018 OC-Centric New Play Festival.

Darren Andrew Nash
Author of "Allegory of the Cave"

Darren Andrew Nash is an actor and playwright born and raised in Southern Orange County. After completing his Bachelor's of Science degree in biology at UCI, and an MFA in theatre performance out in a much colder state (Ohio), he moved back to Laguna Niguel where he currently resides. A member of Actors Equity, as well as SAG/AFTRA, he has been seen on stages and screens across the country. This piece, Allegory of the Cave, is his fourth full-length. His previous shorter works include a one-act, Atonement, produced by Dana Point Theatre Company, and a screenplay for a film, Veiled, which was recently seen in Los Angeles.

Cambria Denim
Author of "A Girl Smiles In The Arctic"

Cambria Denim works as an actor, writer and director. She's received the National Undergraduate Playwriting Award from the Kennedy Center, as well as been selected from a national pool of applicants as a Resident Playwright at the Echo Theatre Company. Her plays have been produced throughout the United States. She's directed immersive, gender bent, and Shakespearean productions (some were all three) at university and regional levels. She studied acting at the Globe Theatre in London and the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon, as well as being a graduate of Texas State University in the Acting program, helmed by The Nanny's Lauren Lane. Buddy Farmer
Author of "Joey & Mare"

Buddy Farmer is a graduate of the University of Alabama. His first play, COACHES, received critical acclaim in Los Angeles and toured to Notre Dame, Milwaukee, San Francisco and Phoenix. He wrote the book for the musical, KNUTE ROCKNE - ALL-AMERICAN, which received several Jefferson Award nominations and is having an Equity production this summer  in Chicago at Northwestern. His play THE BARBECUE was runner up in the New Works of Merit Playwriting Contest and received a production at the 13th Street Repertory Company in New York in 2013.  He won 1st place in the 2018 Show-Off International Playwriting Festival for his play JOEY & MARE at the Camino Real Playhouse. Other plays include the award-winning ALABAMA BAGGAGE (Ohio State Playwriting Competition & New Works of Merit Contest), THE VIAGRA MONOLOGUES, FORE, and the short play HELP. Buddy is an active member of The Dramatists Guild and OCPA.

James Colgan
Author of "The Mulberry Bush"

James Colgan is an actor, director, author, and award-winning playwright residing in Eastern Kentucky. As a playwright, his sexy farce, The Story of Oh (Revised and Abridged), won the Critic’s Award for Best Play in the Fringe of Marin in 2010 and was a finalist in the Samuel French 2011 OOB Festival. His drama, Making It Home, was a finalist in both the 2013 AACT New Play Fest and the 2016 New Play Festival by What If? Theatre. The Fuhrer’s Mistress, based on the life of Eva Braun, won Best Play in the Jewel Box Theatre 2016 new play contest, was showcased in New York City in 2016 by In the Water Theatre, and has since been produced in Morehead, Kentucky, and Denton, Texas. The Mulberry Bush, a comedy about relationships, was a finalist in the OC Centric (Southern California) 2018 new play festival and will be premiered in that festival in August of 2018. His short story, “Shelter,” was published by the Sewanee Review in its Spring 2016 edition.
